Where Dreams Come True!!

Disneyland Paris Half

by Andrea Meek

Ever since I read about this race in a running magazine, I wanted to do it. The first half marathon at Disneyland Paris was in 2016 but due to work and family commitments I was unable do it. I was initially disappointed but I promised myself I would sign up for the race in 2017.

I’ve always been a fan of Disney and the characters, even now at 36 years of age I enjoy watching the films with my children. For me, running at Disneyland was something I not just wanted to do, but needed to do. read more

Leighton 10 – 10 Days Later

Leighton 10 – 10 Days Later

One of the biggest fields of runners for a few years turned up on Sunday 17 September for the 36th Leighton 10. With fairly miserable but good conditions for running, the pre-run set up and sign-up for the organisers and runners was spent huddling in the sports hall as much as possible.

A fine drizzle greeted those on the start line and after a few announcements and a quick round of Happy Birthday to one lucky runner who had the Leighton 10 as a present for his 70th birthday, the race got underway. read more

Schoolboy error of the century

I’m not even sure I should be writing this report as I made the cardinal sin of booking a race on 17 September. I’ll clearly never make this schoolboy error again but since I decided to make the best of a bad job I thought I’d write it up.

On the back of my fun in Lanzarote in November I responded to one of my friends, new to running, who decided he wanted to do his first half marathon. On the back of my runner’s high, whilst at Club La Santa, I booked up and paid for the Simply Health Bristol Half Marathon 17 September 2017. You can imagine Andy’s face when I came back into the sports bar and told him what I’d done. However by that time £40 and been spent and I knew I’d have to spend the next few months getting earache from Andy for booking a race on the most important day of the year. read more

EAL Match 4 – The Buzzards Attack

Track & Field, East Anglian League –  Match 4 – The Buzzards Attack

Event Summary

The August EAL is always a difficult one to get athletes to attend, mainly due to holiday commitments so it was pleasing that we managed to get 30 athletes out including u17 boys for the first time this season and a strong senior men’s squad (noted mostly throws but that’s the way we rock at the moment).

After the slight rules infringement at Cambridge, we were still on for a strong league position so it was good to see athletes in high spirits and full of enthusiasm for the day.

We were up against some of the strongest clubs in the league and no surprise that Ipswich (league leaders) arrived with 2 coach loads but there was definitely an air of something for the taking. read more
