A day out in Leeds!

National XC Championships Roundhay Park Leeds 27th Feb 10

The majority of the team made the long journey north to Leeds in their rattling minibus shaken but not stirred by the big event the U15’s of Billy Mead and Brian Foulger were quickly into their race where a few minutes more warm up would have assisted in this fast paced race. They battled well to finish 216 and 247 respectively of a 387 finishing field. The determination on both the lads faces coming up the notorious hill 66 was great. We think Billy was thinking of his Bargain Bucket KFC that focussed his mind. These two have had a great season fighting injury and hunger! And it isn’t over yet they both represent Bedfordshire schools in the schools championships in Manchester on 20th Mar. read more

Trophies Flow at the County Championships

LBAC secured a whole host of awards at the County Cross-country Championships in Luton this weekend. The championships, which were postponed in January due to the snow making the course inaccessible, suffered somewhat with attendance but LBAC's commitment to the event proved very worthwhile.

The first award came in the U13 boys where Jordan Clay managed too pip Joe McGarry for the first time this season as they led the team home to 3rd place with Jake Irvine and Lloyd Milliken helping them score the vital points. In the U13 girls Beth Tipitte ran well but the results are yet to be posted on the website, so the details will be updated next weekend. read more

Track & Field……mostly

The dates for this summer's track & field league which most of the junior section of the club will attend have just been sent around and they are as follows;

Sunday 16th May – Cambridge Sunday 13th June – Peterborough Sunday 4th July – Colchester Sunday 8th August – Luton

Now, since we lost our track a number of years back the number of senior athletes doing any running, jumping or throwing has gone from a few down to none, so here is a list of reasons why you should put these dates in your diary and give it a go;

1. Support the juniors and encourages better links between the yoof and the old gits 2. Chance to try something new. Long jump, javelin, hurdles……….pole vault! 3. It's good fun. The action is thick and fast with lots of events to watch and athletes to cheer on 4. The events are over with quickly…….so you can do a few! 5. The other clubs who compete are often in same position with inexperienced seniors just coming for some fun 6. The more T & F the seniors do the more likely the youngsters will do the cross-country

Also, along the same lines, there has been another request for help at Tuesday training. The primary concern is with female support as both Liz and Marlene have been going for a many years and with do not really want to be involved any more. If there are enough volunteers it could be done on a rota basis and whilst coaching is useful the main role would be information based. Gail Enjoys the Indoors

Following a day running results around the fields of Wing, our intrepid president set off on Sunday to compete in the Southern Counties Vets Indoor Championships as warm-up before the National Indoors at the end of March. Gail ran in the men's race and found someone of similar pace for the first half until she graduallu burned him off. Her final time of 11.02 for the 3000m was an indoor PB and bodes well for a good summer season.

WEEEE ARE THE CHAMPIONS

So, this weekend LBAC put on a superb final Chiltern League fixture of the season and ended the day with promotion back to division one for the first time in three years, and we did it by taking the title.

First things first though, after much nagging and hard work, the event was a great success and that was acheived by lots of people giving up their day to support the club. This was current members, ex-members and various other people roped in to help out both on the day and the day before, so thank you to all of you who volunteered, it was much appreciated by all the runners. Particular thanks go to Richard Inchley who has co-ordinated the races at Cottesloe for the last 15-20 years and once more organised an excellent event. read more
