Senior Training Runs

Wednesdays

This is the main club training night and aboslutely everyone is welcome. We meet at Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre at 7.25 for a 7.30 prompt departure. The runs are generally between 4 and 10 miles. During the winter the meeting point is at the end of the corridor next to the sports hall.

On the first Wednesday of each month the "Stag Trophy" race takes place from Parsons Close Park in the town centre. The details are on the Stag Trophy pages, but on those nights either come to Tiddenfoot for around 7.20, or go straight to the park for 7.30. A location and route can be found here.

Sundays

For many people, their longer runs of the week tend to take place on a Sunday. Rather than doing them seperately we are trying to give people the option of getting together for these runs. A different person will lead each week on a route chosen by them. It may be from their house or just somewhere they like running. The distances will be from 8 miles upwards and is entirely at the discretion of the leader, but the distance, location and meeting time will be posted here. The only pre-requisite is that you can comfortably run the distance stated. We are constantly looking for volunteers to lead these runs. Please e-mail Andy (Andy_inchley@hotmail.com) to volunteer.

Tour of Milton Keynes

A merry band of three LBAC members have taken on the MK tour this year. In a bid to complete six races in six days Richard Inchley, Chris Norman and Andy Inchley are heading off around the sights of MK every evening for a hard fought race against a bunch of other fools.

Currently three days in and half way in race terms, but a little short in distance terms all three are equitting themselves well. As past participants Andy and Richard know only too well what a 5 mile cross-country, 5 miles on the hills of Campbell Park and a 10K can do the legs so no chickens are being counted here. Brian Graves who organises the event does unique T-shirts each year for all the finishers and burns any that are left spare so if you don't complete, you can't have one! read more

New Training Sessions

With the dark winter months fast approaching, various people are looking for additional training sessions that are a little different from the evening runs around the roads of Leighton & Linslade. There is no change to Wednesday nights, but these should give a couple more options that may also fit into your diary and get you away from the street lamp blues of running up and down Bideford Green!

Saturday Hill Training – Tom May is going to lead a session in Stockgrove Park most weeks (It won't happen on race days) that will leave from the main car park at 8.30am. It will consist of a warm-up, a series of efforts up and down various hills in the park and a cool down. This is ideal strength training for all running, but in particular the cross-country season. Just turn up if you are interested. read more

The Stag Trophy

The start of the new Stag Trophy season is fast approaching and with a plethora of new members, it was advisable to give notice of it. The Stag Trophy is a series of seven races that take place once a month from October to April on a Wednesday night, replacing the usual run.

The details of the competition are on the Stag Trophy page, but it is designed to put everyone on a par and is often won by a new member, as Stuart will testify from last year.

On every Stag Race night people still meet at Tiddenfoot as per usual, but tend to jog down to the park in smaller groups at a time that suits them (normally a little earlier), but if you don't get to Tiddenfoot until 7.30 then you may well be on your own and possibly too late for your start time so give yourself a few extra minutes or go straight there. The dates for the 2010/11 season are; read more

Bedford 10K

Two LBAC athletes popped over to Bedford on Sunday for the 25th Anniversary Bedford 10K at Bedford International Athletic Stadium. On what was a lovely September morning, Craig nelson and Gary Stratford finished with a minute of each other over the flat course round the East side of Bedford.

In his first race since breaking his leg twenty months ago, Craig’s cycling fitness saw him through to a commendable 39:29 and 27th out of the 293 finishers. Meanwhile, Gary took the time to put out lots of Leighton entry forms and claims that this extra weer and tear on his trainers meant that he just missed the 40 minute mark in 40:05 and was just seven places behind Craig, but at least it’s good for his soul! read more
