Bedford 6

Last Tuesday night saw six LBAC members make their way over to the stadium at Bedford for the third race in the East Midlands Grand Prix Series and the Bedford 6.

It is a slightly unusual distance, being just short of 10K but the race is very long standing and was supported this year by 324 runners on a glorious warm evening. The route goes around Priory Park and is extremely flat, with the one hill being a bridge over the A421, which is done both on the way out and back.

The ever improving Helen Crossland has a very good run, despite a fall in the first 100m. She was too busy reading the sign that said "Careful! Hump in Road" and fell over the hump! Despite this incident she completed the course in just over 56 minutes, which means that she was nearer to 9 minute miling than 10. read more

Round MK Relay

This year's round Milton Keynes relay saw the biggest event ever, with 19 teams and one solo runner entered to take part on the day. As a club LBAC had entered five teams and Stu Blofeld was the crazy soloist who decided to take on the 31 miles of multi terrain on a Sunday morning.

The event is very low key, with no marshals at all and is really set out as an enjoyable navigation round the edge of the city. The four legs are quite distinctly different and there can be something for everyone.

As team co-ordinator Andy decided that he would try to make the teams as even as possible and with teams selecting their own handicap the aim was for all the teams to finish at 1.30pm before heading off to the pub. This meant that the five Leighton teams all started with 15 minutes of each other, although this was over an hour after Stu had set off with the first team. read more

Beginner Runner Sessions

We are holding a 6-week “Introduction to Running” course beginning Wednesday 23rd May, meeting at the entrance of Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre at 7.15pm.

If you've never run before, or not for a long time, our beginner course is just for you. It is designed for those of you who would like to learn to run, for fun and fitness. No experience is necessary, just a sense of humour, and a willingness to have a go! We don’t put any pressure on anybody and never judge anyone by their level of fitness. If we can get a few more men and women jogging than walking then the course will have been a success! read more

Silverstone 10K

This Wednesday saw the first of the East Midlands Grand Prix races take place at Silverstone with two laps of the track making up the 10K route. Six club members went up to the circuit on the Northants and Bucks border.

It was a muggy night, despite the strong breeze and steady drizzle and the order of the day was to tuck in and try to keep an even pace all the way. In her first ever 10K Bianca Inchley did exactly that as she aimed for running six minute kilometres all the way and tracked Helen Crossland who has already achieved consecutive personal bests over the distance this year. read more

Watford & MK

Saturday saw the regular MK parkrun 5K take place at Willen Lake, but the usual route along the canal was altered due to a "puddle" a foot deep in water at the first underpass. This meant that the organisers hastily decided on a new route that was a touch longer than the normal one so that people didn't run a short race and get big PB's on the day.

There were two LBAC competitors, with Chris Norman running his fourth race at the weekly event and coming home in third. The other runner was Sam Nicholas, who at 13 was almost the youngest in the field but still managed to run just over 22 minutes for the 3.3 miles. He finished 32nd out of a field of 295. This is a great free race that happens at Willen at 9am every Saturday so get yourself registered on the site and head over. read more
