January Stag Trophy

Nobody likes running the Stag! If they say they do, they are either new or don't try hard enough! Three short flat out laps when you are either being chased down by the people behind, starting so far back you have to unlap yourself or just confused in the middle. It's during the dark damp winter months and Dave always gives you a much harder handicap than you should have because you are ill, injured and haven't trained for a year!

The January race is the epitome of this, as you can also add into the equation the habit breaking Christmas holidays, the over indulgence and the guaranteed cold weather. However, it is during the months of December to February that champions are made or broken for one of the clubs most prestigious and longest standing award. read more

Wing Chiltern League – Plea

On Saturday 12th February LBAC will once again be playing host to the final Chiltern League fixture of the season at Cottesloe School in Wing. This is a very presitigous event as all of the end of season trophies are awarded and results completed.

There are many aspects to organising a Chiltern League fixture and Richard Inchley takes on the majority of them in this case, however, there will be a lot of help needed in the marshaling of the course. We therefore need EVERY SINGLE MEMBER to commit to being there on the day as the more volunteers we get the less marshaling everyone is needed for. Please DO NOT ASSUME that Richard knows you are coming. read more

Boxing Day Run

Sunday the 26th December will see the annual running of the Langmay Trophy and all club members, friends and family are invited to take part.

The event is a "blind handicap". This means that it is run as a straight race with everyone starting together, but Dave Adams will have a predicted time for all club members and the person who beats their predicted time by the greatest margin will be the winner. It is really just a bit of fun to get you out of the house and running off some of the Christmas dinner from the day before. read more

Bedford Half Marathon

It was another frosty morning in Bedford for the club and county half marathon championships in Wootton. There was barely a flicker of breeze despite the cold temperatures and so once into the race it was almost perfect conditions for running. The course at Wootton lends itself perfectly to running a negative split (second half faster than the first) as the three or four hills that there are, are all in the first half. Many of the runners achieved the unusual feat, including numerous members of LBAC. read more

Christmas Pudding 10K

Wondering what to do after battling for places at the Chiltern League Cross Country on a Saturday afternoon? Perhaps rest, or maybe take in a slow long Sunday run as recovery and extra training? A third option is to head off to Wiltshire to pick up a Christmas Pudding! Yes that is exactly what Joby and Jill did on Sunday morning. The only trouble was that to get the free Christmas Pudding there was the small matter of racing 10K first. Sunday morning greeted 324 runners with thick fog and frost and the race organisers with a frozen course. Two hours of gritting later and a delay to the start of only 15 minutes and the marshalls got the race going. The course takes in two laps of the Wiltshire village of Bromham, which is ideal for spectators and the flat course makes it popular with the local runners. Joby Hobbs finished in 14th place overall in a time of 37 minutes and 37 seconds setting a new P.B. while Jill Richardson came home in 101st place in a time of 45 minutes 40 seconds. Anyone wanting to set a new 10km P.B. at an excellently organised race and pick up a Christmas Pudding just in time for Christmas this race is highly recommended.
