Big Efforts Near Biggleswade

Big efforts near Biggleswade – Beds/Bucks County XC

by Colin Postawa

So last Saturday I embarked on a short trip to Shuttleworth for my second ever XC race, and no more “just testing this out” excuses so a top three was definitely on the cards this time. This was the joint Cross Country County race for Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire.

Having only been a club member since October, the first thing myself and fellow club newbie Amy F noticed was just how many LBAC members seem to turn out for these events. If not running, then vocally supporting other members or taking pictures. The XC scene also seems a lot more welcoming than your average 10k event, maybe the format helps with families being able to race in their respective category’s after cheering on their little ones….or maybe it is something else altogether. read more

Some Chill in the Air

January’s Stag Trophy race is often a mixed up affair with post Christmas lethargy and lousy weather indicating slow times, but sometimes we get a cold still night that allows people to run quickly despite the holiday over exuberance. Although it was a little damp under foot, the conditions were excellent and eight people achieved new PB’s, almost all of which joined the club in 2015.

The turn-out was once again very good with 26 people completing the course and making for a friendly but competitive race. read more

MK Winter Half 2015 (2) – A New Year Mullet

by Adam Haylock

  • Rubbish week training
  • Stayed up all night watching boxing.
  • Got up late
  • Drove to MK in a cold car that was overheating.
  • It was, rainy, muddy, cold, miserable
  • Good 5 miles, running with Tom I in 30.30
  • Legs turned to Jelly, ran the rest at training pace
  • Got outsprinted by a girl
  • Cost me £60
  • I am now retired and going to grow a mullet.

Highlights:

  • IG is on fire
  • Jordan can still run fast with little training
  • Tom is strong
  • Tim is now faster than Adam
  • Sam is set to have a record breaking 2016
  • Katie did well with no training
  • Lynn & Jo did amazing.
  • Richard Inchley was first70 (I think)
  • I had beers in the evening

MK Winter Half 2015 – PBs and Prizes!

    MK Winter Half 2015

    By Sam Dear

I’d been checking the weather every day before the run, hoping and praying that:

    1. The recent strong winds would have disappeared
    2. It would be dry
    3. It wouldn’t be freezing.

While the winds had almost entirely completely gone, it most certainly was not dry, but
conditions were near perfect for me for the half marathon distance. A little chilly before the gun went off, but the misty drizzle (aka mizzle!) always helps keep you cool whilst not getting you completely soaked through.

I ran this race last year and I remembered that I was stood shivering on the start line whilst they delayed the race to allow people in the toilet queue to join us. Even though the race is chip timed so it doesn’t matter where you start they kept us waiting again for almost 10 minutes before finally letting us get going. read more

    What? No Crazy Golf!

    By Andy Inchley

“Oh no! What are mum and dad going to do with their afternoons?” This was the immediate thought that crossed the minds of both Amy and I when we discovered that the crazy golf course at Club La Santa (CLS) was being rebuilt while we were there this year.

Don’t get me wrong, there is absolutely loads to do, but mini golf (as CLS call it) is an absolute staple of our time in Lanzarote and when legs are weary from racing it’s a great way to pass the time and take in the sun while retaining a level of friendly competition. However, this is true of Mr & Mrs Inchley Senior more than anyone else! read more
