Marston Forest 5k

By Fiona Towell

I did it! I did it! I did it!
I FINALLY beat 25 minutes in a 5k.
It's only taken me 6 years…

Marston Forest is a lovely flat well organised run and Friday night (14th June) was no exception. Conditions were good and having persuaded 3 colleagues to join me we then met up with the 2 other LBAC runners on arrival, James Bell and Theresa O'Keefe. Young Harry Bell managed to fend off his baby sis' in the fun run before we all headed out to the start line.

James put in a storming performance (he was just 7 seconds off his PB) and Theresa beat her target time in her first 'get back into it' run of the season. My workmates were equally pleased with their own performances and everyone enjoyed the setting. read more

T&F Fun Day – Further Details

On Saturday 6th July we are holding our LBAC Track & Field Fun Day. If you plan to attend can you please let Pete know so we have an idea of numbers before the day. (peter.mackrell@hotmail.co.uk)

The event takes place between noon and 4pm at Stantonbury Track in Milton Keynes (access via Soskin Drive, MK14 6TA). First up we will be holding our Senior Track Championship, which is a 5000m race for the men and 3000m for women (and we all start at the same time). Once that initial torture is out of the way, we'll form into several big teams with the juniors and have a go at javelin, shot put, long jump and 100m. We'll aim to end the day with the already infamous 16 x 100m relay! read more

Blisworth 5

Friday 24th May saw an eager posse of 4 runners venture out to Blisworth for the annual 5 mile race on an undulating figure of 8 route deep in the Northamptonshire countryside. Jordan Clay, Charlie Mead, Aaron Carr and Chris Williams piled into the car and on the drive up encountered torrential rain and hail with the temperature dropping to 4 degrees; perfect summer series running weather!

Thankfully the rain had stopped with 2 minutes to spare before the start, the clouds cleared and the temperature rose slightly to give near perfect running conditions. Only the wind remained as a slight bugbear. read more

Round MK Relay

On Sunday, 24 intrepid members of LBAC braved the wilds around the edge of Milton Keynes to take on the Round MK relay. This is a four leg relay starting and finishing in Stony Stratford with 32 miles of variable terrain in between. Our six LBAC teams were split into approximately even teams so that ther could be some sort of race without it really mattering too much.

A warm start to the day meant that those on legs one and two had the most heat to contend with, but that did balance out as they also had the best under foot conditions, with most of legs 3 and 4 being off road. read more

Silverstone 10K

The heavens opened as the runners moved towards the start, confirming that this would be another wet race at the home of British motor racing. But a quick shower didn’t dampen the spirits of the 15 LBAC athletes who had made the journey to Silverstone for a change in their Wednesday training routine. The setting provided a good speed training session with those serious athletes keeping their trainer tread warm in the pit lane from where the race starts.

Billy Mead, on good club qualifying form, took pole position from the start. He started to run out of fuel towards the end, but still beat his PB with 36.14, a fantastic effort. Andy was in second place on the grid and also on the circuit for the majority of the race, but blames his backup team for not displaying the board to let him know another Junior was hot on his tail. Jordan ran a negative split on his final lap to overtake Andy and secured 2nd step on the club podium with a PB of 36.20. Then there was an onslaught from the Inchelys, Andy and Tom taking the next two places and closing the team of four in 56th place. This shows the high quality of this event with the club placed 8th overall. read more
