Jordan Finds Great Form

Back in the dim of distant past of the 2008/09 season, our team for the Slough December fixture consisted of six men (3 Vets), one junior and one senior (V55) lady. On the day we finished 7th in division 2, which was where we finished overall that season.

Some of the members of that team made the trip this weekend down to Slough and came away with a slightly different experience. Uncle Pete Watkins made one of his last CCCL appearances that day and earned a crucial nine points for the club, but on this occasion was able to put his full effort into being lead support on the day along with senior Inchley. read more

SEAA Inter Counties & Masters

Both Jordan Clay and Sarah Plummer were selected to run for Bedfordshire in the Southern Inter Counties Championships at the lovely cross country course at Shuttleworth near Biggleswade. Jordan running in the U17 team ran strongly to make the scoring team and finish in 63rd place over the 5K course, helping Bedfordshire to a 9th place team finish. Sarah running in the U15 Championships finished in 72nd place with her team finishing in 6th place. She continues to hold her own at this high level of the best athletes in the South of England. Both Sarah and Jordan have regularly represented the County over recent years and congratulations are due to them both for maintaining these high standards. read more

Campbell Park CCCL

Saturday 7th December saw the club descend upon Campbell Park in Milton Keynes for the 3rd Chiltern League Cross Country fixture. The notoriously hilly course did not deter the 17 men who turned up to endure it.Luckily the course was slightly shorter than some in the series.Peter Mackrell was again the first Buzzard man over the finish line in 50th place.Ian Grimshaw followed in 70th place.Next came Paul Douglas and Adam Haylock who continued their impressive cross country racing finishing the course with a sprint finish to cross the line in 82nd and 83rd place, just a second apart. The rest of the men finished in close succession, many commenting on the intense course which included some very steep rises and few flats to recover. read more

Wolverton 5

A crisp wintery day greeted 300 runners at Willen Lake for the Wolverton 5 (It used to be held in Wolverton!) LBAC managed to field 6 runners; the hardy few who remained while some sunned themselves in Lanzarote! At the gun, Simon Coombes was in the front few as expected, with Gary Stratford, Jordan Clay and Charlie Mead not far behind. Just a few paces behind them was Chris Williams, with Fred Watt making the total 6.

Natural order soon prevailed with Simon sitting in the top ten in what was an incredibly strong field including England athletes. Jordan settled in not far behind with Gary Stratford continuing to set a pace. Charlie had a laid back start until Chris Williams went past him which stirred him into action! The course is very flat with no real uphill sections; just two laps of differing size around Willen Lake. At the finish line, 5 of the 6 runners set PBs, some by quite a margin. Simon took one second from his previous PB set 9 years ago to record 26.00, a new M40 club record smashing the 27.25 set by M. Jellis in 1987. Chris knocked a further 35 secs of his PB taking him to sub 35 minutes (34.27), Jordan took 40 secs off (28.18), but the two stars were Charlie (31.38) who took 1m 20s off his PB, and Gary who took a staggering 1m 50s off his previous time to record 30m 31s. read more

A Step Up in Class

We usually try to keep the faster senior men on a relatively low profile on the website, because we do try very hard to keep the club as welcoming as possible to all, with every member who contributes to the club being as valued as the next, however, I am about to make an exception.

The Chiltern League is the one event in the year where the whole club gets together to compete and is therefore a vital part of the club's make-up. Down the years we have won lots of awards, but the reason we have thrived in recent times has been due to getting lots of people out and packing the senior men together. However, we have not had anyone in the leading places of division one for a very long time. read more
