St Albans & Roundway

On the Sunday following our presentation dinner, whilst some of us were flogging our way around numerous laps of the track at Bedford, Chris Norman trotted off to St Albans to compete to take part in their home 10K. After a few beers and a few weeks of hard training, plus an undulating course he wasn't too surprised to be just under 40 minutes in 23rd position. With the continued training efforts, that time will come down very quickly.

On Tuesday evening Joby and Jill made the long trip over to Chippenham for the Roundway Chase 10K (ish). At the start they were both told that the cross-country course was hilly, but they didn't realise how hilly until they were on hands and knees clambering up a muddy hill in rural Wiltshire. Consequently, their times of 41.36 and 52.12 respectively need to be put into context. Joby's 5th position and Jill's 4th lady are probably better ways to judge. read more

Bedfordshire Track & Field County Championships

Sunday 9th May saw the Bedfordshire Athletics Championships take place at the Bedford stadium and the senior sof LBAC once again used the ladies 3K and men's 5K as the club championships.

First up, was the ladies 3K, in which Gail Duckworth, Jill Richardson and Amy Inchley all competed and set their own personal targets for the race. In chilly conditions with a stiff breeze blowing down the home straight, Gail was first over the finish line in 11.15 before Jill Richardson beat her time of last year, with 12.45 and Amy Inchley was 50 seconds quicker than last year in a time of 13.21. read more

Annual Awards Dinner

Saturday 7th May saw fifty club members make their way up to Leighton Buzzard Golf Club for the annual awards dinner where the years successes are celebrated together, whilst most take on board plenty of fluids! In what has been an excellent year for the club in every way there were many things to celebrate, the biggest of which is the huge increase in numbers that has seen the club go from strength to strength.

Thanks go to everyone who has been part of the club this year and made the effort to come along and let their hair down at what was a great fun evening. Below is a list of which individuals won what, but the most pleaseing thing to see is how everyone is jumping at the team competitions at the moment as that is what creates a strong club environment. So well done to the winners but thanks to everyone who has played their part and good luck to all for the next year.

Stag Results 2009/10

So, the delayed final Stag trophy race of the season saw Stuart Blofeld confirm his tag as strong pre-race favourite by returning his fifth personal best time in the five races he has completed this year.

On the night, the positions were slightly confusing as there were a number of non-scoring runners in the first few places over the line, due them not having accurate handicaps as new runners, but all will be available to take a full part next year and Billy Mead (15.32) and Jordan Clay (16.09) are only going to get quicker, with so much youth on their side. read more

Silverstone 10K

Over the years, the Silverstone 10K has given us pouring rain, glorious sunshine, howling gales and pretty much everything in between. The course is flat and pretty fast, but if there is a breeze at all the exposed nature of the citcuit means it can be very windy. However, those that made the trip to rural Northamptonshire on the first Tuesday in May this year, found perfect running conditions, with practically no wind and a temperature of about eleven degrees. It is the first race of the East Midlands Grand Prix Series, which are nearly every week between now and the end of June. read more
