Stag Trophy – Race 1

Wednesday evening saw the first Stag Trophy race of the 2012/13 season take place in Parson's Close. There were 20 brave souls who ventured out on the chilly evening to take on the three lap course. On this occasion there was just one debutant in Max Raxha, who was doing just his second run with the club and so his start time was estimated without any previous knowledge.

The rest of us were being judged on last season's form, which was of benefit to some and definitely not to others! As seems to be traditional now with first timers we either significantly over or underestimate their time and on this occasion Max benefitted from our judgement and cruised around the course in 16:24 to be nearly a minute under his predicted time. However, he was given a good battle for the first place by Jake Irvine whose time of 16:38 was a new PB. read more

Watchless 4

Watchless 4

The first ever watchless run for LBAC seemed to be a good success, with 28 people completing the course on Wednesday night. It was a very negative bunch beforehand though, as 26 of the 28 predicted times that were slower than they actually ran.

Gary Stratford came out as the winner though, just 18 seconds away from his predicted time and pipping Richard Inchley by 4 seconds and Fiona Towell by 15. There were also some pretty dodgy predictions with 11 people more than 2 minutes out!

If anyone has some other suggested events to break up the winter months then please feel free to put them forward. read more

Bedford 5K

As a scorching hot day in Bedford cooled to a sultry twenty-two degrees, thirteen members of LBAC joined about 350 other runners in Bedford Park for the Doug Anderson 5K. This was the club championship for the second year running and is the shortest of the road race distances.

As ever, each individual had their own personal target, but Simon Coombes was after a new club record as a V40, having recently joined the old boys category!

The course is two and a half laps of the park which feels completely flat at a jog or walk, but when you are coming round for the third time there is a very slight incline can take the wind from your sails if your not on top form. read more
