Berko Half

Elliot Hind and I flew the purple and gold flag at the Berkhamsted Half Marathon on Sunday 2 March.

Walking out of the train station at Berko, my race pack instructed me to "look for the ruined castle and turn left, following the signs up the steep hill to the cricket club." I was surprised to find that the castle is in a valley; but equally unsurprised that it is ruined.

I carried this thought with me up a short hill to the registration area/start line. The conditions seemed ideal for running, with a steady breeze breaking up the dark clouds overhead and letting some rays of sun peep through.  read more

Just One to Go

March acted as a real filter in this year's Stag Trophy competition as we finally had a male winner! Suddenly there are only eight athletes who can get into the top three and only three who can win it! This does not give you an excuse not to run, by contrast it really is our duty to get in the way (metaphorically!) and make it as fair a race as possible in April.

March's race saw Charlie Mead take victory with an 18 second PB as he gets ever closer to his brother's family record. This win means that he is one of the three potential winners, although he will have to win the final race and hope Amy is outside the top six just to tie with her at the top. read more

Last year, the event in Sunderland was snow covered and in 2011 the Hampstead Heath event was the usual battle around muddy hills, so to arrive in the midlands and be greeted by firm parkland and some spring-like sunshine was a delight for just about everyone concerned. read more

Winslow 10K

While most members of Leighton Buzzard AC were battling the effects of a heavy night in Nottingham (I mean the Nationals), myself, Glen Turner and Adam Haylock were battling a 25 mile-per-hour breeze in my home town run – the Winslow 10k in North Bucks.

Having been born and bred in Winslow, and never having run the local 10k since it began back in 2009, I decided this was the year. The race is organised by the Winslow Lions Club and is one of the their biggest fundraising events. The other big event is the Winslow Beer Festival, which I have been a consistent competitor in for many years! read more
