Amy Clings On

It was a close run thing, but Amy Inchley just about hung on to claim her second Stag Trophy victory on Wednesday after a long winter season. She has been the favourite for quite a long time, but some really excellent performances towards the end of the season put her under pressure and very nearly snatched the title away.

Twenty people turned up for the April race despite the threat of high levels of pollution in the air and some cheeky advice from Chris Dimmock not turn up at all so that he could have the points. The lighter evening made for some tremendous racing but it was Nick Clay, fresh from his very strong run at Sandy who took the 25 points with a time of 15:04 that sets him up very well for the London marathon next week. read more

Spring Sunshine in Sandy

By Adam Haylock

Sunday 30th March was Mother’s Day and also this season’s first Club Championship race, a 10 miler in Sandy hosted by Biggleswade Athletic Club.  Being a relative newbie to the club I was well up for this especially after a frustrating and inconsistent month of running during March.

Myself and Katie arrived at HQ, the Sandy Sports Centre, where we met up with the rest of the Buzzards getting ready in the sports hall. There was a good atmosphere with music playing and the feeling of a competitive race so with numbers pinned, chips laced we headed off to the start. The route to the start is a pretty long one giving you a chance to warm up and discuss tactics, I was thinking hard about how I could hold Gary off after his recent form? read more

All Roads Lead to Rome

All roads lead to Rome; well that is what they say. Having booked a surprise wedding anniversary trip for the better half last year, it was in early January with no spring marathon in the diary a genuine coincidence came about – the realisation that my planned trip to Rome happened to be the same date as the Rome Marathon! The only question on completing pre-registration was, how do I convince the wife after whisking her to Rome that it was just that; a genuine coincidence? read more

Annual Dinner

As you will no doubt all be aware, this year's annual dinner is on FRIDAY 2ND MAY. It is to be held at Leighton Buzzard Golf Club on Plantation Road from 7pm and is open to anyone vaguely associated with the club.

It is an opportunity to get your best dresses on, let your hair down and have a couple of half shandies. There is even a chance that you may win something!

We encourage anyone who has one, to bring their other halves and we'll try not to talk running too much! read more

Oakley 20

The Oakley 20 Mile race on 23 March was the latest entry in the LBAC running diary, with an impressive nine runners from the club making the trek to the far reaches of north Bedfordshire. The event is staged by Bedford Harriers and also doubles as the Bedfordshire 20 Mile County Championship.

Oakley's reputation precedes it – at least, the famous hoodie for all entrants does. Although this year's choice of white wasn't overly well received from the practicality brigade! read more
