Watford & MK

Saturday saw the regular MK parkrun 5K take place at Willen Lake, but the usual route along the canal was altered due to a "puddle" a foot deep in water at the first underpass. This meant that the organisers hastily decided on a new route that was a touch longer than the normal one so that people didn't run a short race and get big PB's on the day.

There were two LBAC competitors, with Chris Norman running his fourth race at the weekly event and coming home in third. The other runner was Sam Nicholas, who at 13 was almost the youngest in the field but still managed to run just over 22 minutes for the 3.3 miles. He finished 32nd out of a field of 295. This is a great free race that happens at Willen at 9am every Saturday so get yourself registered on the site and head over.

The second race of the weekend was on Monday when six LBAC members went to Watford for the 10K. Four of these athletes were running their first ever 10K and Mandy Clay was very pleased to finish the course in 63 minutes and beat over 200 people. helen Crossland, fresh from her PB at Flitwick did another best time here with 62:18 meaning she was almost exactly 10mpm.

Up in front of the ladies we had Jordan Clay and Charlie Mead both running their first 10K at the age of 15 with Charlie finishing 68th in 43:15 and Jordan 42nd in 41:13 out of over 1000 runners. Billy Mead has been running on Wednesday's now for a year and so is used to running the distance in training, but in his first ever race over 10K he completed the course in 39:38 and 20th position. The first finisher was Sam Thompson whose time of 38:10 earned him 8th place in the fairly grim conditions!
