Freezing But Fast Round the Stag
January is the middle race of the Stag Trophy season and is when those with a little experience start eyeing up the competition on the approach to the “business end” of the series.
The first race of 2017 saw some very low temperatures, with the mercury struggling to get above zero degrees. However, with a minimal amount of wind if you were prepared to go for it there were fast times available. This was demonstrated by 5 PB’s and lots of season’s best times amongst the 24 who turned up.
17:24 was the time of the night with current leader Amy Killick, Neil Green – who finished 3rd – and Amy Inchley – who won – all recording that specific time. Amy I’s was a huge improvement on her time from October as she continues her comeback, while Neil took 15 seconds off his previous best and Amy K earned a solid 15 points for her effort.
In between Amy and Neil, in second place was Coralie Anderson who also smashed her PB by 42 seconds and keeps her in the running for the title. Jenny Rawdon and Leanne Pospisil finished in 8th and 9th respectively and also both earned PB’s and some good points to add to their totals too.
The final PB from the night was Billy Mead, who having run a huge PB last month, took another 14 seconds off this time to get down to 13:20 and move into 13th place on the all-time list! Another five seconds off that and he’ll be in the top ten…….
The overall standings see Nikki Inchley (6th on the night) move into a four point lead over Amy Killick with Stuart Dimmock three further points back. It’s a little early to start looking at possible totals with so many points still left to race for, but 15 years after she last did the Stag Nikki is mounting a strong challenge that will take some overhauling.
There is a new swanky table on the website that shows everyone’s best times ever, which you can sort by any column as well as the traditional excel sheets. The results have been updated and the next race is Wednesday 1st February, followed by the AGM.
