Luton Marathon

On Sunday morning, three LBAC members travelled to Luton for the marathon and 3-stage relay. Tom May was the only runner attempting the full distance, in his 13th marathon (he thinks) with this one being only 4 weeks after his impressive run in the notoriously tough Beachy Head marathon. Tom never intended to take this one quite as seriously and on the day he decided to help pace LFR's Marion Wright around the course, helping her go sub-4 with both of them crossing the line in 3:58:04. A great effort from our gallant club captain, he's available to hire for all your marathon pacing needs!

The other two LBAC runners decided that one lap of the course would be enough and formed a 3-man relay team. A late injury to Chris Norman meant that the first leg was run by late recruit Dan Webber from Milton Keynes AC. Dan got the team off to a great start on the slightly shorter first leg, running 51:01 to hand over in 4th place. Pete Mackrell took over for the second leg and ran 54:45 to keep the team in 4th. Simon Coombes took the baton for the last leg and he closed the gap to the teams ahead, but he couldn't quite overhaul them and his time of 50:44 meant the team finished 4th out of 62 with a combined time of 2:36:30.

Well done to all of them.
