Banbury 5
Tuesday 7th June saw the fifth event of eight in the East Midlands Grand Prix Series take place in Banbury with their long running five mile race. On what is a reasonably fast course in rural Oxfordshire the race was won in just under 25 minutes.
Leighton had three people taking part on this occasion, with the Pat Neilan once again setting a new club record in the V65 category. This was much to the frustration of Richard Inchley who also beat John Adam's mark of 40:10 by fifteen seconds and was pleased with completing the course at under 8 minute mile pace, despite his claimed lack of training, although a week at Club La Santa always helps!
A minute in front of Richard, Pat continued with his challenge to break all the V65 age group records by finishing in 38:45 and setting a stiff target for anyone sneaking into this category in years to come. Pat continues to defy his age as he springs around these courses and should be fully congratulated on suddenly entering all these races after a few years of barely competing at all.
The final competitor was the very youthful Chris Williams, who was doing his first ever EMGP race and led the old boys around the course as he finished in 36:13. Chris also took a load of LB10 flyers with him for distribution for which we are extremely grateful, so just a reminder that if anyone is going to races in the near future please let us know and we'll flyer you up!
This series of races are extremely well organised and relatively cheap to enter (£6 in advance or £8 on the night). The final three races of the series which are all on Tuesday evenings at 7.45pm are listed below, with MK obviously within easy reach of most people.
- Market Harborough 5 – 14th June
- Weedon 10K – 21st June
- Milton Keynes 10K – 5th July
