Stag Trophy – Race 1
The new Stag Trophy season started with a bang last night, with thirty club members completing the three lap course from Parson's Close. It seems that gone are the days where you only had to turn up on a chilly night to pick up fifteen points, and it is great to see. There were seven PB's run on the night, as well as seven other people running the event for the first time. All these times have now been plugged in to the historical records available on the Stag Trophy page and so each individual can set their own targets for next month.
After a year of doing hundreds of laps of the Stag course and spending the summer focusing entirely on the event, it all paid off for Theresa Keefe as she stormed home to take the first 25 points of the season with a new personal best of 24.20. The question is, can she do the same next month? She was chased home by Lucy Kilgour (18.43), Chris Howard (19.21) and Ian Grimshaw (14.21) who were all doing the race for the first time, so managed to wangle a generous handicap.
Note should also be made of the six junior members who ran, with four acheiving personal best times. Billy Mead in particular should be praised for beating his handicap time, despite starting 45 seconds late! His 14.39 was the fourth quickest of the night and shows great promise for the upcoming cross-country season.
All the latest results are available on the Stag Trophy page as well as an explanation of exactly how it all works. The next race is on Wednesday 3rd November.
