A merry band of three LBAC members have taken on the MK tour this year. In a bid to complete six races in six days Richard Inchley, Chris Norman and Andy Inchley are heading off around the sights of MK every evening for a hard fought race against a bunch of other fools.

Currently three days in and half way in race terms, but a little short in distance terms all three are equitting themselves well. As past participants Andy and Richard know only too well what a 5 mile cross-country, 5 miles on the hills of Campbell Park and a 10K can do the legs so no chickens are being counted here. Brian Graves who organises the event does unique T-shirts each year for all the finishers and burns any that are left spare so if you don't complete, you can't have one!

The three races so far have been a windy and wet 6.8 miles on Monday around Tattenhoe in South West MK. Race two took us to Bow Brickhill woods for 1.8 miles of really nasty hills twisting through the trees and trying not to get lost or swear about another hill! Wednesday was a trip to the track for a mile run in heats, depending on your current position.

As it stands, Richard is currently lying in 47th place overall, but is the leading V65 (out of two) and is having a close battle with an old foe in Dave Findal-Hawkins, who is only a sprightly V55. His times of 53:58, 18:24 & 7:04 all compare favourably with two years ago when he last completed the tour. What is also permitted is that if you cannot make one race, you can make it up in your own time (as long as you know the course) so Richard completed the Campbell Park 5 on Wednesday, before making his way to the track for the mile so he's actually four races in after three days and has earned a rest day on Friday. Cunning!

Chris is a tour virgin and so is trying to learn to pace himself over the races, but is doing okay so far. His times of 45:58, 14:05 & 5:33 would place him in between Tom and Tim's times from last year. He currently lies in 22nd place with four people less than one minute in front so has plenty to aim for. Martin McPheat, who will be joining us in Lanzarote is also only one minute behind and is three seconds ahead of former LBAC member Mervyn Phillips in the battle for the first V50

Andy however, has given himself a little bit of pressure. On day one, he went off with his MK nemesis Steve Herring at the front of the pack and after a mile of the race found himself leading. Sensing it was his best ever chance to beat Steve in a race he carried on pushing around the course and held on for a win by 17 seconds. Over the last two days the guys who were 4th and 3rd on Monday have both beaten Andy and closed the gap down to three seconds for the overall lead.

Those in the know, seem to think that Matt Clarke (who has won the last two races) won't have the stamina over the longer ones so the danger seems to come from Steve Herring who ran 2:40 in London this year and Max Dillon who has done a 16:39 5K this year.
