SEAA Inter Counties & Masters
Both Jordan Clay and Sarah Plummer were selected to run for Bedfordshire in the Southern Inter Counties Championships at the lovely cross country course at Shuttleworth near Biggleswade. Jordan running in the U17 team ran strongly to make the scoring team and finish in 63rd place over the 5K course, helping Bedfordshire to a 9th place team finish. Sarah running in the U15 Championships finished in 72nd place with her team finishing in 6th place. She continues to hold her own at this high level of the best athletes in the South of England. Both Sarah and Jordan have regularly represented the County over recent years and congratulations are due to them both for maintaining these high standards.
At the same event there were the South of England Masters Championships in five year age-groups from the age of 40, and we were well represented which was great to see. Fiona Towell was unfortunately our only lady running and running well she finished in 17th place in her age group over the 6K course.
Meanwhile on the men’s side we finished a team in the Vet 40+ race in 15th place. James Bell leading the team home finishing 27th in the V40 category with Warren Rose two minutes behind in 32nd place. The team was made up by Nick Clay competing in the V45 category in 47th place and John Hull in 53rd. The race was over 10K utilising a three and a half lap testing course and the pace was relentless although conditions were ideal for cross country running.
Finally a mention of Simon Coombes who was running in his first claim Club Colours and finished a very creditable 7th in the V40 age group at this high quality event.
It was good to see and hear support for our athletes from Pete Watkins and Richard Inchley (who was also there in his capacity as Bedfordshire male team manager), both enjoying the event without the pressure of performing!
