Stag Short Course!

Clearly the first Stag Trophy race of the 2013/14 season was run over a short course!

It is claimed that of the 25 runners (5 of which were debutants) there were 7 PB's, a number of which were done under very dubious circumstances.

Firstly, congratulations to winner, Katie Haylock. Katie has only recently taken up running and expertly blagged a good handicap from Dave together with putting in a fantastic run to finish a smidgen over 20 minutes and claim the first 25 points of the season. Katie was chased home by Mark Field, who is back from his warm weather training in Iraq, which just goes to show how far some people will go to hide their current form!

This is where it starts getting silly. Tom Inchley has been whinging for a week about his dodgy legs, how much they hurt and wondering if he will even survive the night. Well 13.39 and a new PB nearly 16 years after setting his previous best and a speed session last night. Clearly suspicious, but at least he has still never won a stag race.

Congratulations to Fiona. She has been trying for years to break the 20 minute barrier and now she has. 19.53 and drinks all around in the pub I understand. She along with Chris's Dimmock and Williams have been training hard so there is less dubiousness around their three PB's after a solid summer of running. The same can't be said of Charlie Mead who I understand took most of the summer off to concentrate on his tan in France, but clearly a week of touring MK got him going in September and a new best time for him is a great effort.

However, the most likely shortcutists are Pete Mackrell and Chris Norman. Having just returned from a moderately successful Berlin marathon 3 DAYS AGO they both claim to have run their fastest ever times round the infamous three laps. Now Chris' PB was lousy, but Pete's wasn't and I can barely walk three days after a marathon, let alone run fast for 2.5 miles!

Right. Anyway I could warble on about lots of other good performances, but the best thing about the race is that there were 25 people running which is a very good turn-out indeed. If this continues it will make the rest of the season very interesting. Just remember, whether your run scored lots of points or very few, there are still six more to go and only five count.

The full results and updated PB lists will be up imminently – or now if you are reading this after Wednesday!!
