Juniors – June 2013 Newsletter

Summer Break – We will not be training over the summer school holiday period last training 25 July – Start back 27 August

New Members, inductions days: The next induction day to tell your athletic buddies at school is the 2nd and 4th July. Following induction day September 3rd and 5th

Bedfordshire Network Quadskids 9th Jun Ampthill
Two Girls and one boys team competed at the Under 11 athletics quadkids meeting at Ampthill. There was plenty of enthusiasm and energy displayed by all athletes and some excellent results, seeing PB come down in the running events and go up in the throw and jump event. Zara Butler deserves a special mention winning the girls event outright and need to maintain her form for the last event that we host at Biggleswade AC on 14th July.

Hosting the next event. We I will be sending an email to all under 11 parents with the various roles we need to fill for this event from girl and boy team management (chaperone) to time keepers and result recorders. Please sign up to help the smooth organisation of this event, as we try to balance this and the 3rd EAL at Cambridge on the same day. Under 11’s energy permitting are welcome to attend both events on the 14th July.

The next Quadkids is on 14th July @ Biggleswade AC (Sandy) 9.00 am – 11.30 am

East Anglain League (EAL) 23rd Jun Braintree

The rain held off until we stepped back on the coach to come home, which rounded of an excellent meeting for all those athletes competing. It was great to see nearly all events being competed in the U13 and U15 girls events with debut performances from Beth Foster and Jasmine Little adding strength to that age group. Having two teams in that age group for the relay is a first and unfortunately we fell foul of the rules for non-scoring and b string teams in that event. We will put that right at Cambridge.  The U13 girl’s team with individuals trying different events and gaining points for the club and individually in the club championship completion saw the girls 5th in their age group with the U15 Girls team 4th. The bus had room for 15-20 more people and filling the next one, will see us improve on an overall 6th place. Some individual excellent performances by Shea Minty and Jordan Clay in the 1500m beating their PB’s in windy conditions, Kelsey and Danielle Taylor in the shot putt placed 2nd in A and B string respectively gaining 12 valuable points for the team and the U11s of Zara, Amy Killick, Kacie Anderson and Joseph Bidlake-Hull all performed well and were smiling at the finish!

The biggest observation on the day was the difference in size of athletes from other clubs, to ours. The majority of LBAC are competing a year young in their age category, which was obvious from the tallness of other clubs athletes (grow bags needed). The athletes did not let this phase them too much, with Melissa Chapman and Elspeth Eley competing well in the High Jump. Jasmine and Bee Mundy earned the club a valuable 10 points in the 75m hurdles which is excellent as this was the first time they have competed at that event.
A massive well done to all that competed, encourage you training buddies to turn out for Cambridge on the 14th July.

East Anglain League (EAL) Officials
We introduced the parent supporters to the additional role of finish order spotting at Braintree and thanks to you all that stepped up (pushed  Sally) to help with this on Sunday.
Thanks to Kim, Gisele and Becca for officiating the relays a task worth volunteering for to ensure the meeting ends on time or as near as.
Those of you that have the bug for officiating(or just want to wave a flag!) and wonder how the time keeping or field and track officials know what they are doing, there are courses that we can load you on that will help you and the club fulfil its commitment on that front.
Not only useful for EAL but the club family’s day and quadkids events. Also, any practice competitions we put on at training will put these skills to good use. Please let us know and we will source a course for you.

LBAC Kit Ordering:
Club kit can now be ordered directly from the supplier and sent to your home at www.moette.co.uk and search for the club in the drop down menu at the top right. Alternatively download the form from this website (see menu on the left.

Parent Help:

Coach Assistants:
Thank you to: Lynn Boddy, David Killick, Kim Taylor, Tracey Hawes and Linda Meredith. 4 parents and 1 volunteer that have volunteered to undertake their Coach assistant course to help with training on Tue and Thu.

The Bedfordshire network will put on a closed course for Bedfordshire clubs in September, dates TBC (sorry Tracey). Please continue to help when you can in the build up to the course and ask Fi, Warren, Jon or myself for any tips in readiness for the course. (This will help reduce the waiting list of potential athletes that we have waiting to join).

We would like to say farewell to Chris Ring, who has left the coaching team and Dave McGarry who leaves at the end of July. Their contribution to the club and their experience in Sprints and Jumps will be missed and we thank them for all they have done for the Club. (We will miss Leoni and Joe whose lift to training goes at the same time! But, thank them for being excellent ambassadors for the club whilst competing and training.)

The parent help list is getting shorter, thank you
But, if you are not cut out for coaching and fancy helping with the club admin the below tasks are still vacant:
· Co-ordinate entries for the summer track and field events.(This could be broken down into Girls and Boys team managers)
· Summer events coach (transport) coordinator (only two coaches to book a year generally depending on fixtues) coordinate who is traveling by coach and collect monies on the day.
· Membership secretary –(this task is nearly complete for this year, just new members and those still to join this year to take on)
· Quad Kids event reports (A parent of an under 11 year old would be suitable for this task)
. Sportshall event reports
. Sportshall Coordinator (Winter 2013)
. Quadkids Coordinator (Summer 2014) (a volunteer from those who will still have under 11’s next year ie year 6 and below at school)
. Newsletter writer

Training and support/shadowing the current holder of these tasks will be given for all positions. Please talk to Nick to discuss the task you would like to take on.
