Tuesday night saw six people from the club head over to the Open University in MK for the final race in the East Midlands Grand Prix Series and the Milton Keynes 10K. This is a flat fast course around the redways that heads up to Willen Lake and back.

Fred Watt and Pete Mackrell were doing there 7th race of the series and a good performance from Pete would earn him a top eight finish overall and a prize to go with it. Fred was standing in third place in the V60 category, but really good run could see him gain second. Overall results were taken on the best five positions of the series.

The race starts on the Woughton playing fields and heads out into the village at the start. Unfortunately the main gate off the field was locked closed and the result was that 400 people had to get through a four foot wide gate 200m into the race. The start was therefore VERY fast!

Andy Inchley was first to get carried away as he headed off in the top twenty with a couple of people from MKAC. Pete Mackrell was chasing him down with friend of the club, Terry Stanley from Ampthill. Chris Norman was not far behind Pete and Tom Inchley was being somewhat more circumspect ahead of Fred and Dickie Inchley.

Unfortunately for Chris, at about halfway he started to get some severe cramp which he couldn't shake off and it ended up finishing his race as he jogged in. Meanwhile Andy was suffering from his fast start and saw Pete and Terry cruise past him at 7K as he struggled to get near his earlier pace. Tom wasn't risking his dodgy legs and continued round at a steady speed while Fred was targetting Jim Miller of MKAC to get what might be a crucial extra point.

As it turned out, Andy was inspired at 8K by Amy's coaching and he kept within distance of Pete and Terry before a late effort enabled him to just sneak in front of Pete in the closing hundred as they finished 19^th and 20^th in 35:53 and 35:55. Pete's weeks of effort were rewarded with an 8th place finish in the overall standings.

Tom managed to complete the course without any further ill effects on his calves in 40:46 and Fred couldn't quite catch Jim so finished as 5th V60 on the night which earned him 3rd spot overall and just one point behind 2nd. On the night Richard was very pleased with his 48:32 as he came home as the first V65.
