UK Inter Counties

Four LBAC members went off to Birmingham last weekend to represent Bedfordshire at the UK Inter Counties. In order to be selected to represent the county you can either finish in the first six of the county championships or perform consistently well throughout the season and persuade the team selectors that you are good enough to be picked.

Brian Foulger has had an outstanding season, finishing first home for the club in every one of the U15 boys races and to made the trip to Cofton Park after being selected. With every county selecting their very best runners, it should be noted that even the people who finish last are still of a high standard (Just ask Simon) with an example being that Matt Janes who often wins Chiltern League races finished 34th in the senior men. Brian finished 184th his race out of a total of 298 competitors, and was 6th home for Bedfordshire in a strong team that finished 12th out of 42 overall.

In the U17 men, Billy Mead was joined by Steve Fuller, who was only asked to run three days earlier after a couple of great late season runs for LBAC after recently joining the club. Billy ran a solid race to come home in 219th with Steve only 21 seconds but 26 places further back. Considering they are both a year young and the quality of the field, this was a great effort by them and they should be hugely congratulated. With both the lads now training on a Wednesday, they will surely benefit from all the senior wisdom for the next year!

The final runner was Simon Coombes, who we all know is the quickest in the club. Well Simon finished the senior mens race in 284th out of 292 runners! It was not his best ever, but it does show the standard very well! The men's team were 22nd overall.
