Beccy Takes Two
Leighton Buzzard AC had three representatives at the county schools athletics championships at Bedford this week with Billy Mead, Brian Foulger and Beccy davies all being selected to represent South Beds against, Luton, Mid Beds and North Beds. It is a pretty high standard of competition with both Luton AC and Bedford & County having strong track and field pedigree.
Brian was running in the junior boys 1500 where he ran a PB of 4.48 to take 3rd place and also did the 80m Hurdles in a time of 14.2, which also represented a PB. Billy meanwhile was competing a year young in the inter boys 400m, 800m and 4 x 100m relay. Suffice to say he was not delighted with any of his performances but at least can come back next year and try again.
Beccy Davies was competing in the junior girls long jump, 75m hurdles and 100m. She started with a slight disappointment by jumping 4.43, which was a little way off her best this season, however, she then turned to the track. Firstly, in the 100m Beccy sneaked over the line a tenth of a second in front of her nearest rival to become county champion in an extremely tight race. After a short break, she jumped back on to the track for the hurdles where she repeated the feat by the same margin to take her second gold medal of the evening. Beccy’s night was then topped off by the South Beds junior girls winning the title for the first time in eight years.
