East Anglian League
Last Sunday saw the first of this year's East Anglian league fixtures take place at Cambridge. Eighteen young athletes from the club made their way over to the event, which is the first of four throughout the season. They give everyone an opportunity to compete, not only in their usual events, but also there are plenty of points available by simply having a go at anything.
Becky Davies, Kirsty-Anya Shefferd and Jess Amey made up the U15 girls team who managed to cover eight events between them. In a series of close events the best performances were Becky's 3rd in the 100m and 2nd in the long jump, while Jess was also 2nd in the B string long jump and Kirsty 2nd in the B string javelin. In the senior ladies events, Natalie Kimble took part in all three throws and picked up 11 points for the club having finished 4th in both the shot and discus.
On the boys side of things, the U13 team of Lloyd Milliken, Patrick Clay and Luke Walsh picked up the only two LBAC wins of the day with Lloyd in the 1500m and Luke in the discus. Their combined efforts saw them finish in third place as a team. The U15 boys had a team of four (Brian Foulger, Jordan Clay, Joe McGarry & Jake Irvine), three of which are bottom year in the agegroup and so to compete in thirteen events between them represents a really good effort on their part. The best performances on the day came from Brian (2nd in the 1500m) and Jordan (4th in the long jump). In all the cases there are only small gaps to the other competitors in front so there are many more points to be gained infuture events.
The only U17 to take to the track last weekend was Billy Mead, whose time of 2.22 for the 800m saw him gain a respectable 2nd place in the event whilst also taking on the 400m on the same day. Supporting the league fixtures on the same day are some U11 events, in which LBAC had four competitors. All the U11's were given the chance to do long jump, 80m & 600m. Fergus Walsh excelled in the long jump with 3.58 whilst Mathilde Sammons, jade Lindars and Alicia Amderhub all put in good performances across all the events.
Anyone (including seniors) who is interested in doing some traditional athletics is more than welcome to come along to the next fixture at Peterborough on the 13th June. Also, anyone available to help out on a Tuesday or Thursday with junior training would be very welcome. A full list of results from the day are available via the results pages and there will be photo's in the gallery when John sends them over!!
